A Family Outing

The kids had Friday off for a teacher work day so Aaron took the day off too. After a picnic lunch and easter egg hunt with some others from church, we took off for a short hike in the woods- with walking sticks to boot! It was still a bit chilly but we had a good time. Aaron insisted on buying the kids their own "walking sticks" complete with carved animals on the handle. I, personally, didn't see the value in those expensive sticks as they would have been just as happy with any one of the pieces of timber lying around on the forest floor (for free). Oh well, sometimes we have to agree to disagree.

We had a nice 2 mile hike. Even Emorie walked the whole way (with a little twig she found for a walking stick - she wanted to be like her siblings). When it was over the kids said they had a great time. Karter surprised us with his enthusiasm since he was the one who was apposed to the whole idea of going on a hike.
We saw some interesting things along the trail. There was an "Octopus Tree", I believe was a chestnut tree that had grown with a very interesting branch design - leaving it looking like an octopus. Despite the 50 degree weather there was such a beautiful arrangement of cascading icicles for our enjoyment. I am looking forward to returning to this same hike in a month or so to see how it will look in a different season. The lack of leaves gave us an opportunity to view some interesting and beautiful things we might not have otherwise noticed.
